For those who don't know me, my name is Adam Braun, and i'm an artist. ("Hi Adam" like an AA meeting.) In less than a month, I turn the big 5-0, and that is enough for someone to look back at their life to see how they got to where they are. I recently got my art website up and running again after a hiatus which lasted a couple years... but we'll get to the reason for that in a minute. Let me give a little background on myself.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio... loved comics as a kid... liked drawing comic characters... met some artists in high school and got serious about getting into comics as an inker... worked for some small companies, but never the Big 2... got into Pin-Up Art and worked freelance... got married and started a family... worked on sketch cards... moved to Dallas, Texas... started working for Heritage Auctions in the Comics department... and here I am! That is the abridged version, because I don't want to bore you (too much), but i'll go into more detail when the opportunity arises.
The gist is, I was knee-deep in trying to get into comics in the mid-90s, doing the convention circuit, meeting a lot of people and living through a crazy time in comics, went a different direction when the comics industry imploded in the late 90s, fiddled around for a couple decades, and voila! After moving across country, I was lucky to find Heritage and get into their Comics department, specializing in comic art and working everyday with the things I love.
This (and Covid) lead to my taking a few years off from art, but it came a-callin' again, and here I am... drawing, painting, working on sketch cards for Upper Deck again, and updating my website. As i'm here adding artwork and building my gallery, i'm wondering "what will keep people coming to my site... what will keep people 'engaged' and entertained?" A BLOG! And my first thought, "What the hell can I do for a blog? Who wants to hear me babble?" And after talking to some good friends, they made me realize I have some good stories to tell, some good information to give, and a place to share my fifty years of experience and knowledge.
So, what can you expect to see here? Good artwork to start:) (at least, I hope you think so). I plan on talking about stuff I find interesting... comics, art, and pop culture. I'd like to make this blog a mix of entertainment and information, talking about some of my past experiences, maybe giving tutorials on how I go about creating my artwork, giving some insight into working at Heritage, and just about anything else. I want this to be a place people can not only get to know me, but hopefully discover some interesting and useful information about some of the things we all love.
If you made it this far, thank you! I hope to have new content a couple times a week, so please join the blog or subscribe to the website to be alerted to new artwork and blog posts.
Til' next time!
-Adam
